Plumb Side Table

This side table was created as part of a sustainable furniture design course at Iowa State. The goal was to create a piece of furniture using readily available waste streams. I had previously designed the Plumb Table Lamp, so I knew that there were plenty of PVC pipe cutoffs available from the construction industry. I used a space heater to warm up the
v-shaped PVC legs until it was soft enough to bend around the center post. The quartz tabletop is what is left after a countertop company cuts a hole for a sink. The industry throws out dumpsters full of these cutouts in all shapes, sizes, and stone types, including nice imported Italian marble. Scrap plywood was used as an interface between the center post and tabletop. All materials were free with the exception of two bolts and two nuts that hold the PVC parts together.
